Grégoire de Lafond – Lighting Designer

At the age of 17, Grégoire de Lafond discovered the work of lighting as a volunteer at an open-air theatre festival in south-eastern France. First, he undertook an apprenticeship in film at BTS Audiovisuel in Villefontaine. In 2003 he started to work as a lighting technician, for theatre, dance, concerts and other forms of events.

After 4 years, he decided to devote himself entirely to light-designing for live performances and trained as a stage manager at the Institut Supérieur des Techniques du Spectacle in Avignon.

During an internship, he met Philippe Berthomé and decided to settle in Paris, where he assisted him on numerous projects: the operas Melancholia, staged by Stanislass Nordey, La Traviata, staged by Jean François Sivadier, L’affaire Tailleferre and Eugen Onegin by Marie-Ève Signeyrole, Light Bird by Luc Peton, as well as events such as Les Fêtes Maritimes de Douarnenez, or the lighting of Angers Cathedral for the festival “Les Accroches Coeurs”, etc..

He also joined various theatre groups as a lighting designer: Pierre Yves Chapalain’s LE TEMPS QU’IL FAUT (for La Lettre, La Fiancée de Barbe Bleue, Absinthe, La Brume du soirandOutrage), Pierre Marie Baudoins DLR2 (for Fritz Bauer, Médée, Jimmy SavileandLe Syndrome Karachi), Léo Cohen Paperman’sANIMAUX EN PARADIS (for L’histoire de Léa, Petits et Grands, Le Crocodile, La Bouche pleine de terre, Forge, Les Nuits BlanchesandOthello).

In 2015 he worked for the Birgit Ensemble on the creation of Pour un Prélude and designed the light for Memories of Sarajevo and Dans les ruines dAthènes for Avignon in 2017.

In 2016 he designed the light for Justine Heynemann’s production of Les Petites Reines, which was nominated for the Molière Theater Prize in the Young Audience category. In 2018 he joined the group LA SUSPENSION by Bertrand de Roffignac for “Four Corners”, which was presented in the Cirque Electrique, and worked with Jean Yves Lazennec on the upcoming lighting creation of “Quelqu’un va venir“.

He began his collaboration with Diane Clément by working on her new production of Bizets Carmen in 2014 and Puccini’s La Bohème in 2016.
